After last week’s horror fall of regular stable jockey Ruby Walsh ruling him out of action for at least three months after having to have his Spleen surgically removed it was left to second in command Sam Thomas to what it seemed to just guide 2/5 odds on favourite Kauto Star around the Haydock Course to an easy victory were all left shell shocked after a final fence slip up left the race to be won by outsider Snoopy Loopy.
Kauto Star the regular Grade 1 winner of many races was brought into contention by Sam Thomas straightening up for the back stretch and the final four fences after stalking his opponents all the way around the race, and when the 2-5 favourite finally upped through the gears at the following open ditch and looked to have the race easily won.
However his luck was about to turn for the worst, he hit the side of the fence and was then ridden along by Jockey Thomas to try and maintain his momentum having dropped back through the field, this seemed to work and he came with another challenge on the front-running horse at the final fence but he jumped wildly at it and stumbled on landing which depositing Thomas on to the ground and ended all hope of success on this occasion giving the win to the fast finishing Snoopy Loopy in the process.
